Genre
drama, film adaptation
A screen adaptation of the novel by Mikhail Sholokhov.
The film covers the events of the First World War, the October Revolution and the Civil War. The action begins in 1912. Heroes pictures - neighbors, villagers, Cossacks from the village of Tatar village Veshenskaya - live in this land for centuries, they are linked by kinship, friendship, love, general labor and military service.
But this strong and self-contained world with its own unique way of life, habits, and a unic system of views and values crumbling under the onslaught of bloody turmoil and revolution. Don divided by hatred. Seemed firm ancient foundations of the life of Don - land, farm, family, military duty are dissolved in the crucible of a fratricidal war.
Families Melehova, Korshunova, Astakhov, are involved in the cycle of military and political events. "I'm interested in the family - in the narrow sense Melehova family, in the broad sense - the inhabitants of the hamlet Tatar. We made a film not about the rightness of red or white movement, but about the possibility of happiness of ordinary people. And about how this happiness can be easily and permanently destroyed, "- continues the director.
Against the background of the epochal events of the early twentieth century unfolds a love story Cossack Gregory Melehova (Eugene Tkachuk) and married the beautiful Axinya Astakhova (Polina Chernyshova). The historic turning point that destroyed the ancient way of the Don Cossacks, coincided with a tragic turning point in the personal life of Gregory.
Undecidable moral choice - "Who to be? Who and what to serve? "- Runs through all the events of the picture.
Throughout his life Gregory fought for freedom and truth, but could not figure out which side it is true, and with whom he on the way: with red or white.
Melekhov can not make a choice between two women: his father imposed Panteley (Sergey Makovetskii) lawful wife Natalia (Daria Ursulyak), and his one true love Aksinya Astakhov make people forget you were not able to neither duty nor war nor revolution ...
